Man sentenced to 3,000 years in prison for sex crimes against children

A Greene County man was sentenced on Tuesday to 3,000 years in prison for sex crimes against children. According to a news release from the district attorney’s office, Matthew Perry was convicted of 13,143 felony counts of sex crimes against children, including 2,190 counts of rape of a child under age 13. Perry was found guilty after a four-day long trial in November. He will not be eligible for parole until the year 3523.

Woman gives birth in bandits’ den, baby killed, bleeding mum freed

An abducted housewife, Mrs Shamsiya Mustapha, has delivered a baby boy in a bandits’ den in Kagarko LGA of Kaduna State.
City & Crime had reported that the woman, her husband and her 16-year-old daughter, Mahapuza Mustapha, were abducted in their residence in Janjala community in Kagarko LGA on February 5, 2023.
The bandits later freed the husband, Mustapha, after they collected N2m ransom, including a brand new motorcycle and foodstuff, and held on to his pregnant wife and the daughter, demanding another N2m ransom before they would be set free.

1 killed as hoodlums sack Kogi communities

Tension has gripped Oganenigwu communities in Kogi State as hoodlums invaded the areas, destroying and burning houses, making the residents to flee.

The incident was said to have started on Saturday when a resident, Alilu Ali, was said to have been killed in Edede in Dekina LGA by the invading hoodlums, said to be on a reprisal.

It was gathered that the hoodlums, suspected to be herders, on Monday night, spread their activities beyond Edede to Ojapata and Ebeje settlements in Oganenigwu community.

Residents who were on the run said some of them had taken refuge in areas like Agbada.

Ekiti man remanded for selling dad to ritualist

Three persons have been remanded at the correctional facility in Ado-Ekiti, over kidnapped and murdered of 82-year-old man, Michael Obasuyi,Ekiti State, by a magistrate’s court sitting in Ado-Ekiti.

The Magistrate, Bankole Okuwasanmi, ordered that the suspects, Sunday Obasuyi (42), son of the deceased; Akinniyi (51) and Bobafe Sunday (51), be remanded pending advice from the Director of Public Prosecution (DPP).

Previously, the prosecutor, Inspector Akinwale Oriyomi, told the court that the defendants conspired and kidnapped the aged man on February 1, at about 11am in Agbado-Ekiti, Gbonyin LGA, and that his corpse was, some weeks, later discovered in a shallow grave.

Florida School Uproar Leads Italy to Invite Viewing 'David'

A Florence museum on Sunday invited parents and students from a Florida charter school to view Michelangelo’s “David” in person after the school principal was forced to resign following parental complaints that an image of the nude Renaissance masterpiece was shown to a sixth-grade art class.

Florence Mayor Dario Nardella also tweeted an invitation for the principal to visit so he can personally honor her. Confusing art with pornography was “ridiculous,” Nardella said.

The incredulous Italian response highlights how the U.S. culture wars are often perceived in Europe, where despite a rise in right-wing sentiment and governance, the Renaissance and its masterpieces, even its naked ones, are generally free of controversy.

The Italians are responding to the board of the Tallahassee Classical School forcing Principal Hope Carrasquilla to resign last week. The school has a policy requiring parents to be notified in advance about “controversial” topics being taught.

PDP Suspends National Chairman, Ayu

The Peoples’ Democratic Party (PDP) on Sunday announced the suspension of its National Chairman, Dr. Iyorchia Ayu, for alleged anti party activities.

Ayu was suspended by the PDP Ward Executives of his Igyorov Ward in Gboko Local Government Area of Benue State.

The PDP Ward Secretary, Vangeryina Dooyum, on behalf of Kashi Philip, who is the Ward chairman, told journalists in Makurdi, that the national chairman’s suspension followed his alleged anti party activities.

The secretary in a statement signed by 12 out of the 17 member Ward Executives, noted that the decision to suspend the National Chairman was reached after the leadership reviewed his conduct at the end of the just concluded general elections.
