No bail for Fubara allies in Rivers assembly bombing case, Abuja court rules

The bail applications filed by loyalists of Siminalayi Fubara, the Rivers State Governor, have been dismissed by a Federal High Court in Abuja. The defendants in this case are Chime Eguma Ezebalike, Prince Lukman Oladele, Kenneth Goodluck Kpasa, Osiga Donald, and Ochueja Thankgod. These individuals have been linked to the explosion at the state assembly.

The police charged them with terrorism for their alleged involvement in the bombing of the Rivers State House of Assembly in October 2023. They are also accused of killing police officers.

There was an incident involving the alleged impeachment of Fubara. Some individuals threw an explosive into the complex, causing a fire. Justice Bolaji Olajuwon rejected the applications, stating that the defendants were charged with a capital offense related to terrorism and alleged murder.

Olajuwon added that there was no evidence to the fact that the facilities at the correctional centre cannot meet the health needs of the defendants.

She added that the evidence before the court showed that experts at the health centre were capable and well-equipped to manage the condition of the defendants.

The case was subsequently adjourned till February 8, 2024, for hearing.
