Governor of Rivers State, Sir Similanayi Fubara, has said the aim of those opposing him was to snatch his red biro, which represents his signing power as the executive governor of Rivers State. Fubara, who spoke at the crossover church service at St Paul’s Archdeaconry Parish in Opobo in Opobo/Nkoro Local Government Area of the state, said he was sincere about his dedication to providing quality leadership.
Fubara said those against his administration wanted to discourage Rivers people and abruptly halt the progress of development, but failed. He therefore urged Rivers people not to be dismayed over the ongoing crisis because nothing would prevent him from managing the affairs of the state successfully. “What they want is this red biro but it is still with me. We are the victors because we are still signing with the red biro. As long as we are signing with the red biro, development will go on in Rivers State,” he said.
He stressed that nothing would hinder his administration from reaching its destination because its foundation was built firmly in God who alone would give the strength to finish the process of building. The governor said there was a planned development agenda and level of achievement set for Rivers State in 2024, stressing that he would not stop working for the good of the state.
He conveyed gratitude to President Bola Tinubu for the fatherly role he played when he intervened to in restoring peace in the state. “Like I always say, it takes a mature man to be a father. He acted like a father. On our side, we will continue to give him all the required support because if he does not succeed in Rivers State, he will not succeed as a president.
“Therefore, we will continue to give him every support as a state. We are not hypocrites. Our support is authentic and it is to advance his programmes. Our sacrifices are part of the support,” he added. Governor Fubara also thanked Rivers people for their steadfast support, describing them as supporters of true Rivers State and urged them to have faith in the decisions he makes.
