Nine people were nabbed by the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps for stuffing and selling pillow cases with old diapers and menstrual pads in Sokoto.
The state’s Commandant, Bello Alkali Argungun, said the suspects were paraded at the command headquarter on Wednesday, following an intelligence report.
He said the suspects used small children to collect the trash and fill the pillow cases with it, which they sold to unsuspecting customers.
“The pillow cases have different logos of reputable companies,” he said.
He warned that this could pose a serious health risk to their customers.
"They could get infected with some diseases without knowing the source.
“I urge our people to always engage in legitimate businesses,” he said.
He added that the investigation was still ongoing and the suspects would be prosecuted soon.
The command also celebrated over 300 newly promoted staff.
