This plant has dense, orange-red heartwood that takes on a high sheen and is a premium wood used for making bows for string instruments.
The characteristic reddish color of Pau de Brasil comes from the essence and particles of iron oxide that turn it into an incorruptible wood, so it was the target of all navies and sailors in that land for their joke-damaged ships.
So they practically led to their extinction.
It is one of the hardest and densest woods in the world and has a color close to fuchsia when cut, but turns dark brown over time by oxidation
