See in color. Statistically, women have more “cones” in
their retinas than men for the simple evolutionary reason that across the
spectrum of vertebrates it is males who must put on a display to win the
female; heck we might even include arthropods here! Perfect examples would be
peacocks with males being the pretty colorful ones and females sporting only a
dull white. The most colorful male wins the mate and therefore spreads the
genes.
This works another way, too. Females who do a better job of
seeing color also tend to pass their genes on to the next generation. So they
have more cones with which to see color and they do a better job - objectively
- discerning between similar colors on the spectrum. Women make better
pathologists and interior decorators, they may excel at botany or agriculture
and the visual arts, why? Because they have better color vision.
This is just one way women outperform men, but it’s an
important one.
