What is the most interesting historical fact you know off the top of your head? The Salem City witch trial.

In February 1692, a young girl in the city of Salem(present-day Danvers,Massachusetts,)began having seizures that defied all medical explanation at the time, not so long after the first case two other young girls started having similar manifestations of fits including violent contortions and uncontrollable outbursts of screaming. Doctors and ministers watched in horror as these girls twisted themselves, hid under chairs, and shouted uncontrollably.

With limited knowledge of medicine and understanding of disease processes, the medical experts of the day put their heads together and concluded the girls were bewitched. They punished the girls until they began pointing figures at some unlucky women around them and labelled them as witches.

These unlucky women were severely punished until one of them who was called Tituba began confessing and started pointing fingers to several other women in the city,this threw the whole city in chaos. Nineteen convicted “witches” were soon hanged.

When it was all over,it was reported that ;141 suspects, both men and women, were tried as witches. Nineteen were executed by hanging. One was pressed to death by heavy stones. Several more perished in harsh prison.

What is the strangest statue in the world?

This is my favorite: St. Wenceslas riding a dead horse in a Prague shopping mall

I also like this elephant. At a distance of 18,000 km from the earth, the elephant Wursa could balance on her trunk. It is on the basis of learned scientific calculations that the artist Daniel Firman reached this conclusion, and came above all to produce this extraordinary work which confounds all our certainties regarding the gravitation of bodies.

SOME SOCIAL RULES THAT MAY HELP YOU

1. Don’t call someone more than twice continuously. If they don’t pick up your call, presume they have something important to attend to;

2. Return money that you have borrowed even before the person that borrowed you remember or ask for it. It shows your integrity and character. Same goes with umbrellas, pens and lunch boxes.

3. Never order the expensive dish on the menu when someone is giving you a lunch/dinner.

4. Don’t ask awkward questions like ‘Oh so you aren’t married yet?’ Or ‘Don’t you have kids’ or ‘Why didn’t you buy a house?’ Or why don't you buy a car? For God’s sake it isn’t your problem;

5. Always open the door for the person coming behind you. It doesn’t matter if it is a guy or a girl, senior or junior. You don’t grow small by treating someone well in public;

6. If you take a taxi with a friend and he/she pays now, try paying next time;

7. Respect different shades of opinions. Remember what's 6 to you will appear 9 to someone facing you. Besides, second opinion is good for an alternative;

8. Never interrupt people talking. Allow them to pour it out. As they say, hear them all and filter them all;

9. If you tease someone, and they don’t seem to enjoy it, stop it and never do it again. It encourages one to do more and it shows how appreciative you're;

10. Say “thank you” when someone is helping you.

11. Praise publicly. Criticize privately;

12. There’s almost never a reason to comment on someone’s weight. Just say, “You look fantastic.” If they want to talk about losing weight, they will;

13. When someone shows you a photo on their phone, don’t swipe left or right. You never know what’s next;

14. If a colleague tells you they have a doctors' appointment, don’t ask what it’s for, just say "I hope you’re okay". Don’t put them in the uncomfortable position of having to tell you their personal illness. If they want you to know, they'll do so without your inquisitiveness;

15. Treat the cleaner with the same respect as the CEO. Nobody is impressed at how rude you can treat someone below you but people will notice if you treat them with respect;

16. If a person is speaking directly to you, staring at your phone is rude;

17. Never give advice until you’re asked;

18. When meeting someone after a long time, unless they want to talk about it, don’t ask them their age and salary;

19. Mind your business unless anything involves you directly - just stay out of it;

20. Remove your sunglasses if you are talking to anyone in the street. It is a sign of respect. Moreso, eye contact is as important as your speech; and

21. Never talk about your riches in the midst of the poor. Similarly, don't talk about your children in the midst of the barren.

22.After reading a good message try to say "Thanks for the message".

APPRECIATION remains the easiest way of getting what you don't have....

What is a "mobius tape"?

In 1858, August Ferdinand Möbius, to prove his theory about orientability, created an object that to this day still generates some discussion among specialists: this object is the Mobius tape.

This item was originally introduced in 1865, it highlighted the importance of geometric illusions from a topological point of view.
The ribbon came about as a result of studies on the geometric theory of the polyhedron, carried out by Möbius while serving as a professor of astronomy and higher mechanics at the University of Leipzig, Germany. The object consists of an item with "only one side" in a loop format, where if the manipulator placed a finger on the material and followed the path without escaping the face, it would return to the starting point after two complete turns.

The invention, which is nothing more than the joining of two ends of a strip of paper after undergoing a rotation, is a unilateral product that is impossible to determine which is the top and bottom, the inside and out. According to mathematicians, these are the foundations of a "non-orientable object" that may well draw parallels with concepts of time and alternative realities.

The Möbius strip is the clearest representation of infinity, both because of the traditional format as we know it, and because of the property of not having a path with a beginning or an end, but infinite, where one has the impression of running eternally along a two-sided strip. .

Apart from its importance in the studies of orientation and geometric positioning, the Möbius

strip

also makes great contributions to topology, an extension of geometry that serves to designate a family of sets, giving the first airs to the concept of continuity. Scientists in the field study properties of objects that are preserved when moved, bent, stretched or twisted, without cutting or gluing the parts.

This proposal comes with important implications and brings new ways of studying the natural world, helping to develop number theory.

What is the meaning of the word "czar"?

The word “Czar”, albeit associated with Russia, is actually a word brought to us by Bulgarians. They called Czars their monarchs, starting from the 10th century. This was obviously derived from “Caesar”, as opposed to the Greek basileus.

When the Rurikids Christianized eastern Slavic tribes, our ancestors started using Old Bulgarian as the language of educated elite. Our Bible is written in Old Bulgarian. This is how we adopted the word Czar instead of the old Turkic Kagan.

Our first Czars were the rulers of the Turkic Empire of Jochi.

. When the power of the Volga Turks declined, in the 16th century a ruler of Muscovy decided to grab the title from the Chingizides. His name was Ivan the Terrible. He got crowned as a Czar in Moscow in 1547, i.e. six centuries after the first of Czars. Later, he conquered the Turkic kingdoms along the Volga in order to eliminate all possible competition.

However, the Chingizides in Crimea refused to acknowledge Muscovy’s claim to Czarist fame. Supported by the military might of the Ottomans who held Constantinople, the spiritual center of global Orthodox faith, the Crimeans kept claiming tributes from the Kremlin until 1700.

First when Peter the Great amassed enough military muscle, we wrestled Czardom from the Chingizides for good. However, Peter wasn’t totally comfortable with the title. It sounded too Oriental for him. Therefore he proclaimed himself emperor of Russia in 1721. After that, the heads of the House of Romanov used the titles of Czar and Emperor interchangeably.

Below is an iconic portrait of the first Czar Simeon I of Bulgaria.

. He started a long association of Czardom with bearded rulers, which was broken first by Peter the Great. Peter’s preference for cleanly shaved cheeks was however abandoned by Alexander III. Our last Czar Nicholas II, assassinated by the Bolsheviks, sported facial hair that stood in style with Simeon

Who is the most badass person in history that no one knows about?

This French General of African descent was so badass that even Napoleon was jealous of him. His enemies referred to him as the, “Black Devil.”

His father was a French aristocrat and his mother a Haitian woman. He was raised in a typical aristocratic fashion and his father spared no expense in his military education.

For a man of the 18th century, he appeared a fearsome giant. Six-foot-two tall and insanely strong, Thomas-Alexandre Dumas was like Hercules.

During the French Revolution, he joined the French army and quickly moved through the ranks due to his skill in swordsmanship, strength, and ingenuity in battle tactics. He gained glory, fame and everyone in Paris knew his name.

Here is a list of his badassery.He single-handedly defeated a dozen Austrian soldiers, captured twelve as prisoners and led them back to his camp. He also did this a second time and took sixteen prisoners.
Thomas-Alexandre Dumas wasn’t afraid to lead his own men into battle from the front. He successfully defeated an Austrian cavalry, captured a whole city and took 1500 prisoners all in one day!
When his horse was shot from under him, General badass refused to be taken down and used his dead horse as a cover from musketfire. As soldiers charged, he took them down with each stroke and held the cavalry back before reinforcements came.
He saved his future wife’s village during the French Revolution and that’s how they met and fell in love.

Because of his battle prowess and reputation as a excellent military tactician, Dumas became a general in Napoleon’s campaign in Egypt. During a revolt that centred in the Grand Mosque of Cairo, he famously captured the Grand Mosque and scattered the rebels. Napoleon admired this feat but was also jealous.

In later years, Napoleon commissioned an artist to paint this historical victory but erased General Dumas and instead had himself painted entering the mosque.

The Revolt of Cairo would be historically accurate if it was a black man carrying the sabre.

Compared to Napoleon’s small stature, Dumas cut a dashing figure and this stirred jealousy. The chief medical officer wrote that the Egyptians were dismayed when they caught sight of Napoleon because of how, “short and skinny he was.”

In comparison, he wrote that Dumas with his powerful physique atop his horse appeared formidable and like a centaur. The populace would often wrongfully assume he was the leader of the expedition.

Unlike Napoleon’s lackeys, Dumas wasn’t afraid to speak his mind and criticized the Egyptian campaign, especially after Admiral Nelson defeated the French navy. After a lengthy quarrel, Dumas left the Egyptian campaign to return to France but was captured aboard his ship and languished two years in prison.

After his release, Napoleon remained bitter to the end and blocked any financial assistance to Dumas and his family. When one of Napoleon’s generals brought up General Dumas, Emperor Napoleon stomped his foot and said, “I forbid you ever to speak to me of that man.”

Thomas-Alexandre Dumas died in 1806 but Napoleons hoped to diminish his legacy never came to fruition.

Before his death, he would tell his young son, Alexandre Dumas, stories about his adventurous and heroic days. That son grew up to become a renowned and celebrated author of “The Three Musketeers” and “The Count of Monte Cristo.”

Alexandre Dumas resurrected his father in stories of glory, honour, chivalry and heroism.

Woman Gives Birth To Real Life ‘Mermaid’ Baby

A 23-year-old Indian mother had doctors in total shock when she gave birth to the country’s second ‘Mermaid baby’ whose gender was impossible to be determined, but lost it just four hours later.

The baby born with fused legs was born with a rare condition known as ‘Mermaid Syndrome’ or Sirenomelia. It was the second such case in the country and fifth in the world.

Muskura Bibi had given its natural birth on Wednesday morning at the government-run Chittaranjan Deva Sadan Hospital in Kolkata, India.

Bibi, for whom it was the first pregnancy, had not undergone sonography and only learnt about the baby’s condition when she first saw it after birth.

Dr Sudip Saha, child specialist at the hospital said:

“The baby had normal formation in upper part of the body but below the waist its legs were fused together.

The lower part was not developed completely. The parents are a labour couple and had not sought proper medication during pregnancy due to lack of money.

Due to lack of proper nutrition and improper blood circulation to the baby from mother can create this kind of abnormality in foetus. Unfortunately such babies do not survive.”

How did diabetes patients survive before the invention of insulin?

Ancient India was at the forefront of knowledge and distinction between type I and type II diabetes.

The ancient Indians used ants to recognize the presence of diabetes, since elevated glucose levels caused patients' urine to have a high concentration of sugar. The ants were attracted to urine rich in sugar, and for this reason the Indians called the disease with the diabetes term “madhumeha”, or honey urine.

The Indians knew that rich, obese patients had a different form of diabetes than younger, leaner ones. Increased physical activity helped heavier patients, but had no treatment effect in thinner patients.

They also knew that both types of diabetes were quite rare. Increased physical activity, exercise, and dietary changes were used in conjunction with traditional Ayurvedic medicine. Bitter gourd, fenugreek, curcumin, and other herbs were also used. Even today, these treatments are still used in India along with other types of medicine. Ancient India managed to treat type II diabetes, but could not do much for type I, except relieve pain, since they did not have the means to produce insulin,

Thanks to the work of two ancient Indian physicians, Sushruta (700 BC) and Charaka (400 BC), we can assume that many Type II diabetes patients survived many decades after diagnosis. The idea of increasing physical activity and eating foods that promote weight loss was well understood as a way to maintain good health. It was known that food rich in fat was preferable to food with a higher sugar content. The difference between type I and type II diabetes would not be recognized until the 1930s, already in the middle of the modern era. The work of the ancient Indians on the treatment of diabetes was perhaps the most advanced until the advent of insulin in the 1920s. Although diabetes is now better understood.

If insulin is a hormone, where does the insulin that diabetics inject come from? - Ask me anything
Hello, at first insulin was extracted from the pancreas of pigs because it was practically the same as that of humans except for one amino acid, however this
